UNESCO/Javiera GarayAll rights reserved16 January 2026Last update:10 February 2026On Wednesday, 14 January, the UNESCO Regional Office in Santiago organized the panel “AI, Learning Sciences and the Teaching Profession” as part of Congreso Futuro 2026, with the aim of analyzing the challenges and opportunities that digital transformation and artificial intelligence pose for education and the teaching profession.The event, held in the Multimedia Room of the CEINA Cultural Centre (Santiago, Chile), brought together specialists from academia, the education system and UNESCO, who discussed how to integrate artificial intelligence into education on the basis of scientific evidence, pedagogy and a human-centred ethical perspective.Against a backdrop of rapid digital transformation and the constant evolution of the learning sciences, the panel drew on frameworks promoted by UNESCO —such as the Regional Teacher Strategy, the Artificial Intelligence Competency Framework for Teachers and the Global Alliance for the Learning Sciences— to put at the centre the strengthening of the teaching role, the incorporation of scientific evidence into pedagogical practices, and the use of AI in the service of deep, inclu...
