Summary

Gen. Dan Caine emphasizes the Pentagon's need to engage with tech entrepreneurs and investors to adapt to emerging technologies for military superiority.

Why It Matters

This article highlights the Pentagon's strategic shift towards innovation and collaboration with the tech industry, which is crucial for maintaining military effectiveness in an evolving global landscape. Caine's call for better integration with tech founders and funders underscores the importance of modernizing defense capabilities to counter emerging threats.

Key Takeaways

  • The Pentagon must connect with tech entrepreneurs to enhance military capabilities.
  • Legacy systems are insufficient for future military challenges; innovation is key.
  • The Defense Department is working to improve its acquisition processes to attract non-traditional contractors.

It will be won by our breakthroughs in AI, cyber, autonomy, space, energy, advanced manufacturing, data, compute, you name it. And we need your help with this,” he said. New capabilities can improve command-and-control systems, decision-making, mission execution and survivability, he noted. However, the Pentagon needs industry to scale new technology to the point that it becomes a “strategic differentiator.” Advertisement U.S. adversaries are sharing tech and intelligence, enabling them to field advanced capabilities faster, he warned. “And on our end, the barrier for entry for technology, for disruptive tech, is low, but the barr...
