The Opportunity:

The Data Scientist Lead will work closely with the Data Science Director to ensure successful development and implementation of AI/ML modeling solutions. This role involves supervising multiple projects, providing technical expertise, ensuring quality results, and mentoring Senior and Junior Data Scientists. The lead will collaborate across teams to understand business problems and formulate AI/ML solutions in Consumer Lending, Bank Operations, and Automation. A consulting mentality and subject matter expertise in model building, communication, and leadership are expected. This position requires in-office presence four days a week and can be based in San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is available.

What You'll Do:

  • Gather, interpret, and manipulate complex structured and unstructured data for advanced analytical solutions.
  • Lead advanced analytics using machine learning, simulation, and optimization to deliver business insights.
  • Guide the team on selecting appropriate modeling techniques considering data limitations and business needs.
  • Develop and deploy models within the Model Development Control (MDC) and Model Risk Management (MRM) framework.
  • Compose and peer review technical documents for knowledge persistence and risk management.
  • Partner with business leaders to identify needs and recommend analytical projects to generate business value.
  • Manage project portfolio milestones, risks, and impediments.
  • Establish best practices for engaging with Data Engineering and IT for deploying analytical assets.
  • Mentor data scientists in modeling, analytics, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified and controlled.

What You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline or equivalent experience.
  • 8 years of experience in predictive analytics or data analysis, or an advanced degree with 6 years of experience.
  • 4 years of experience in a dynamic scripted language (e.g., Python, R) for statistical analyses.
  • Strong experience in querying and preprocessing data from various databases.
  • Expertise in classical supervised and unsupervised modeling techniques.
  • Project management experience with a focus on managing milestones and risks.
  • Extensive model building experience, preferably in banking.
